The second installment in the Halcyon series about teens with super human abilities, the Lab Brats continues the story that began in The Imminent Death of Josephine Gray. Summer in Halcyon is both boring and brutally hot for Nathan and Josephine, and they’re still a little shell-shocked after the drama of finding out who they really are. Meanwhile, there’s a new kid in town with secrets to keep and hours to fill as he learns what it’s like to live outside a laboratory. The Lab Brats takes up the tale where The Imminent Death of Josephine Gray leaves off, so this volume can get pretty confusing if you haven't read Josephine Gray.In Vol. 1 the reader was introduced to a number of teens, most with exceptional capabilities (two can make themselves invisible, one gets premonitions of future events, another can pass through any substance including walls, etc. It also turns out the six youngsters with special abilities are siblings - the result of genetic manipulation, artificial insemination, and the same egg donor. All were carried to term by surrogate mothers. Three were kept in the lab that "designed" them for ongoing testing and three were let out into the world under differing conditions, knowing nothing of the others while secret observers kept them in sight, ready to drag them back to the lab if they showed any unusual talents.
All six showed "talents" but all had the sense to keep their abilities secret ... the lab brats hoping to be set free and the free ones attempting to stay under the radar.
All end up in a one-horse town in Arizona, Halcyon. Obviously this cannot be an accident. So, how did they get there and how can they continue to escape the Foundation that runs the lab?
With that as the skeleton of the tale, the teens have adventures galore in Vol. 2, some near lethal, and some that do end up with people killed.
By the end of the book almost all loose ends are tied up, so even people who are anti-series can safely read it. The ending is not a cliffhanger, although it does sort of promise interesting events to come,
I'll admit it. I loved it!

I love these teenage mutant siblings! Now that I'm used to the changing POVs of all these characters, you really get to know each character and it makes you start to love each new perspective. Even the characters you kinda want to hate but can't. Ah, Micah. He reminds me of Dr. House from the tv show, House, in that way.
There is a switch of main POVs from book one. It's a focus on Nathan and the other brothers in this book. It not just them though. But I really liked getting to know the other brothers and all about their lab brat life. And I flipping LOVED the mystery of the Nines! Hilarious! There is so many great twists and fun references in this book. And another big cliffhanger! So...when does book 3 come out? Cause I'm going need know what happens next! )
Loved all three books, great story, great characters. Had me hooked from the beginning. Liked all the twists and turns.
